An explosion occurred at an under-construction residential building located in Bengaluru's Fraser Town, within the Pulakeshi Nagar area, leaving two construction workers injured. The incident unfolded at approximately 2:30 PM after the workers, identified as Suraj and Alauddin, came across a suspicious abandoned bag on the street.
Under the assumption that the bag might hold valuables given the festive season, the pair brought it up to the fourth floor of the six-storey building. The blast occurred immediately as they opened the bag, resulting in one of the workers losing a finger while the other sustained separate injuries.
Law enforcement personnel along with specialized forensic teams swiftly deployed to the location. Investigators at the scene uncovered electronic components including batteries and wires that are typically linked to improvised explosive devices.
The items gathered from the blast site have been forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed chemical testing. Meanwhile, local authorities have launched a formal investigation and are awaiting the final forensic analysis to definitively establish if an improvised explosive device was involved in the incident.
