Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King is already making major financial waves ahead of its theatrical debut. The Siddharth Anand directorial has reportedly pulled in Rs 665 crore through various pre-release agreements, according to tracking data from Sacnilk, positioning it as one of the most lucrative pre-release campaigns in modern Hindi cinema history. The movie has locked in substantial deals covering domestic and international distribution, digital streaming, television satellite rights, and music licensing prior to its scheduled December release.

Excitement surrounding the project intensified on November 2 as Shah Rukh celebrated his birthday by releasing the movie’s debut track. This promotional rollout kicks off roughly seven weeks ahead of the film's arrival in theaters on December 24, 2026, marking the superstar's return to the silver screen after an absence of more than three years.

A significant portion of the reported Rs 665 crore total stems from theatrical distribution agreements. International rights were reportedly secured by Phars Films on a minimum guarantee of Rs 175 crore, marking the highest overseas minimum guarantee ever recorded for an Indian movie, with previous benchmarks failing to breach the Rs 100 crore threshold.

Within the domestic market, Pen Marudhar acquired the Indian theatrical distribution rights for Rs 250 crore. Meanwhile, non-theatrical revenues bolstered the pre-release ledger further. Netflix reportedly purchased the global digital streaming rights for Rs 150 crore, though this agreement features a box office performance clause meaning the final payout may adjust based on theatrical receipts. Television satellite rights and music licensing brought in an additional Rs 25 crore and Rs 65 crore respectively.

Driving these robust figures is an expansion in the project's overall scale. Although King was initially budgeted near Rs 200 crore, insiders indicate that production expenses have escalated to approximately Rs 400 crore. This figure accounts for the director's remuneration while leaving out Shah Rukh's acting compensation. Total financial outlays could approach Rs 500 crore when factoring in the leading man's notional fees, alongside an anticipated Rs 40 crore earmarked for marketing and distribution overheads, setting a global profitability target of roughly Rs 800 crore.

King reunites Shah Rukh Khan with filmmaker Siddharth Anand following their collaboration on the 2023 box office smash Pathaan. Furthermore, the movie serves as the first on-screen pairing of Shah Rukh and his daughter Suhana Khan, supported by a cast that features Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, and Abhishek Bachchan.
