The allegations relate to bribes allegedly collected from candidates in return for government jobs in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department during Nehru's tenure as minister. The High Court had ordered a full investigation based on material provided by the Enforcement Directorate, which first flagged the alleged irregularities to the state police in October 2025.According to the DVAC, as reported by PTI, officials were examining documents, financial records and other material at the locations to trace the suspected flow of money and collect evidence related to the recruitment process. The searches came a day after Nehru filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Madras High Court's October 26 order.
The High Court had dismissed his review petition against the registration of the first information report.DMK president M K Stalin described the searches as "Vettri Vendetta Politics" carried out by the TVK government. In a post on X, Stalin accused Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay of staging a "raidshow" to divert public and media attention from what he described as the state's deteriorating law and order situation.
He claimed women, children and elderly people were unsafe.Stalin called the ruling party the "TN Branch Washing Machine", alleging that it accepted corrupt individuals while targeting only former DMK ministers. He also alleged that the searches were conducted to create "reels videos" for the upcoming Trichy East by-election and provide the Chief Minister with an opportunity to deliver "punch dialogues" on stage."Even the toenail of a grassroots DMK cadre will not fear these raids," Stalin said. The DMK chief also criticised the TVK government over what he called its "rusted administration" and steep price rises, claiming that the entire country was laughing at the state government. The DVAC searches are part of the court-directed investigation into the alleged Rs 634-crore recruitment scam, while Nehru has approached the Supreme Court against the High Court order allowing the case to proceed.- Ends
