One marketing professional from Delhi has proposed a feature to take prices out of the equation, and Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal has promised to roll it out this week.Ayushmaan Agarwalla pitched a feature called ‘Mehmaan Mode’ in a LinkedIn post, tagging Goyal and suggesting a way to make group food orders less awkward for hosts and guests.“I have a small feature recommendation,” Agarwalla wrote, before explaining how the proposed feature could work.“One that makes prices disappear; then phone can be passed around by host without awkwardness to guests to order at ease. The host can then take the phone and make payment.
I have witnessed the phone being passed around for orders increasingly,” he added. The idea is straightforward.
With menu prices hidden, guests could browse the available dishes and place their orders without worrying about the cost of each item. The host could then take back the phone and pay for the entire order.Agarwalla suggested that the feature could spare both hosts and guests some embarrassment, particularly during the festive season, when friends and family often gather for meals and group orders.
See the post:Goyal did not take long to respond. Replying to Agarwalla's LinkedIn post, the Zomato founder and CEO wrote, “Thanks for the suggestion.
Shipping it this week.”He also wished the user a happy festive season, giving the suggestion a quick public acknowledgement and promising that the feature would roll out within days. The exchange is another example of how social media suggestions can find their way into product development at companies under the Eternal umbrella, which includes Zomato and quick-commerce platform Blinkit. With Mehmaan Mode, Zomato appears ready to tackle another everyday food-ordering dilemma, this time involving the delicate business of hosting guests.- Ends
