The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has deleted a promotional video for its November 1 'Chalo Delhi' rally in Ramlila Maidan after facing a backlash over footage that appeared to show a man secretly filming women on a street at night. The post, captioned “Kinda chic tho??”, drew criticism for seemingly portraying the unwanted filming of women as something fashionable. The 20-second video shows the man using his phone’s flashlight to film three women walking at night. He is then seen taking several pictures of them before scrolling through the images on his phone. As he zooms in on a picture of one of the women, a poster for the Ramlila rally is visible on her phone.
When asked what message the video was intended to convey, IYC president Uday Bhanu did not offer a direct explanation, saying instead that stalking should not be encouraged.Asked whether he had seen the video or approved its posting on social media, Bhanu said the content was handled by the organisation’s IT Cell and that it was not possible to approve every video posted online. “It's wrong to secretly film someone or take their pictures. We also want to know why the IT Cell posted this video,” he told India Today.#IndiaTodayImpact | After massive backlash youth Congress deletes the video. @AnjaliPandey06 and @tweets_Amit with more details. #YouthCongress #ViralVideo #ITVideo @PoojaShali https://t.co/ff2A6zTX0l— IndiaToday (@IndiaToday) October 27, 2026Responding to the criticism, the IYC took a swipe at its critics, saying it did not “usually respond to IT Cell coolies” and adding, “Everyone has bills to pay."It then sought to shift the focus to the BJP, asking critics to address questions surrounding the Ankita Bhandari murder case.“Want to discuss women's safety?
Explain how the VVIP culprit in the Ankita Bhandari case became a Governor,” the Youth Congress said, before adding, “Sit down. Let Gen Z speak.”The now-deleted post, however, triggered outrage online, with social media users questioning why footage resembling street harassment was being used to publicise a political event.BJP leader Vishnu Vardhan Reddy tweeted, "Indian Youth Congress is normalising stalking and harassment in the name of its so-called 'Chalo Delhi' campaign.
What a cheap party Congress has become."While one commenter said, "So Congress supports stalking and eve teasing," another posted, "So it's the eve teasers and molesters that go to such places."One more person on X asked, "Is Congress promoting crimes against women?"The November 1 rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan is expected to draw around 10 lakh people, according to the Opposition INDIA bloc, which is seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Described as the culmination of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, the protest will target alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Election Commission and what the Congress calls “vote chori”.The party said the rally would send a strong message of Opposition unity in the fight to protect democracy and the Constitution.- Ends
