Who is the Belgian-born economist protesting at Jantar Mantar?
A photograph of Jean Drèze eating with underprivileged people on a roadside went viral in 2017. Born in Belgium, Drèze became an Indian citizen in 2002 and went on to shape India’s social welfare policies. He helped draft MGNREGA and played a key role in campaigns for the Right to Information Act and the National Food Security Act. Nearly a decade later, Drèze was at Jantar Mantar, protesting alleged electoral roll irregularities.
