Tamil Youth Discuss Rationalism, Periyar's Philosophy And North Chennai Stereotypes
A group of Tamil youths shared their experiences regarding rationalism, education, and social empowerment during an interaction. Speaker Indiapriya spoke about his journey into Periyarist ideology, highlighting the role of Thirukkural and rational thinking in questioning social hierarchies and superstitions. He stressed that Periyar's contributions must be understood through the lens of women's liberation, caste annihilation, and humanism. Another speaker, Rasiyabanu from the Vyasarpadi-based organisation Vyasai Thozhargal, discussed challenging persistent stereotypes associated with North Chennai. She described how community initiatives provide free education inspired by Dr B.R. Ambedkar, teaching politics, constitutional rights, and critical thinking to local children. She also detailed her personal path of overcoming patriarchal barriers and discrimination, emphasising the transformative power of education and the Constitution in striving for social equality.
