Actor Imran Khan, a United States citizen, has been issued an expulsion notice ordering him to leave India under the Immigration Act following his involvement in Mumbai demonstrations directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Mumbai Police served the notice after Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya filed a formal complaint accusing the actor of foreign interference, illicit participation by a foreign national in domestic political protests, and receiving overseas funding.

In response to the action, the actor's legal representation, headed by advocate Zulfikar Memon, announced intentions to contest the Foreigners Regional Registration Office directive and associated police summons via an urgent petition filed at the Bombay High Court.

The enforcement action has ignited a broader political clash. Congress MLA Nana Patole strongly criticized the central administration, accusing authorities of suppressing dissenting voices and drawing parallels to international deportations. Previously, following his temporary detention, Imran Khan defended his attendance at the demonstration by asserting that freedom of movement is a protected fundamental right.
