Tamil Nadu Power Minister Nirmal Kumar has alleged that power cuts are being deliberately carried out at select locations during visits by ministers and other VIPs, hinting at possible foul play within the electricity department. He said internal meetings were being held, and departmental action was underway to address the issue. His remarks came after a power outage at the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple during a visit by AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami sparked a political row, with the opposition leader taking a swipe at the ruling TVK government.Reacting to the controversy, Nirmal Kumar said such incidents were not being reported across Tamil Nadu but were occurring selectively in certain places.“In many places, power is being deliberately cut off when VIPs or ministers arrive.

It won't be right for us to say it. There are many in this department.

Internal meetings, transfers and action are being taken. We will fix this and not complain about this,” the minister said.

He indicated that the department was looking into the disruptions and that steps, including transfers and other action, were being taken to prevent such incidents.EPS SLAMS TVK GOVT OVER TEMPLE POWER CUTThe controversy erupted after Palaniswami experienced a power cut while praying at the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. The AIADMK chief criticised the ruling TVK government, saying people were being denied even the peace to worship. “When I was praying at Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, there was a sudden power cut.

People are not able to live peacefully, nor can they pray to God peacefully under this government,” EPS said. The incident triggered a political row, with Palaniswami questioning the government's handling of the outage. Nirmal Kumar's remarks have now added another dimension to the controversy, with the minister suggesting that some power disruptions during VIP visits could be deliberate acts within the department.- Ends
