A Georgia family experienced a heartbreaking ordeal after paying a veterinary clinic to euthanize their four-year-old Pug named Cha Cha, only to discover months later through social media that the dog was actually alive and well. Owner Rebecca Belote explained that the family had agreed to euthanasia in March 2026 after Senoia Animal Hospital in Coweta County advised them that the animal was suffering from organ failure due to diabetic keto acidosis.
Months after the supposed procedure, Belote spotted Cha Cha on Facebook appearing to thrive with a hospital employee. An acquaintance and a former clinic worker confirmed to the family that the dog had never been put down in the first place, but was instead taken home by a female staff member whose husband verified her recovery.
When Belote confronted the veterinary clinic about the deception, the establishment denied the allegations through legal representation and refused to discuss the matter further. According to Belote, the clinic subsequently retrieved the dog from the employee and euthanized her in an effort to cover up the initial failure to perform the procedure.
Belote expressed deep outrage over the incident, emphasizing that the dog had been a cherished member of the household, particularly to her 17-year-old son who shared a close bond with Cha Cha and carried her everywhere. The family has since filed an official complaint with the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
