The Delhi High Court asked Sourav Ganguly to pinpoint scenes in 'Doosra' that allegedly violate his rights. The scrutiny will shape claims over personality rights and a competing biopic contract.Newdelhi,Oct 29, 2026 14:10 ISTThe Delhi High Court on Thursday asked cricketer Sourav Ganguly to identify specific portions of the film ‘Doosra’ that allegedly violate his personality rights, news agency Press Trust of India reported.Justice Tejas Karia directed the defendants to submit a pen drive containing the film and listed the former India captain’s lawsuit against its makers for hearing on November 2.

The film is described as a fictional story about a middle-class Rajasthani girl inspired by sporting events involving Ganguly.“Prepare a table with time stamp of the objectionable scene and narration of the objections. We will see it over the weekend and we will hear you,” the court said.Luv Films LLP, which is producing a biopic on Ganguly, is also a plaintiff in the case and has alleged that ‘Doosra’ violates its contractual rights.

The court asked the plaintiffs to submit the manuscript of their upcoming film ‘Dada’ in a sealed envelope and explain how the defendants’ film breached those rights. The plaintiffs’ counsel sought a temporary injunction against the defendants even though ‘Doosra’ was released in theatres last week.

The court was told that the film was yet to be released on streaming platforms.“It is all about Sourav Ganguly’s life. His image has been badly exploited without consent.

After intermission, it is all about the 2002 NatWest match,” the counsel submitted, according to PTI. A senior counsel representing the defendants said they had obtained permission from the authorities that held the copyright to the clips of the sporting event.

Opposing Ganguly’s plea, the defendants also said he was only a “source of inspiration” for the film.On October 23, the High Court had asked the makers of ‘Doosra’ to respond to Ganguly’s plea alleging violation of his personality rights and to arrange a screening of the film. A day earlier, the court had refused to stop its theatrical release.‘Doosra: India’s Other Freedom Struggle’ is a sports drama directed by Abhinay Deo and starring Plabita Borthakur, Ankur Vikal and Samidha Guru.

The court will hear the case on November 2 after examining the scenes identified by Ganguly and the claims concerning his personality and contractual rights.- Ends
