Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal has advised people against buying his brain-monitoring wearable Temple if their basic needs are not taken care of. Goyal made the remark in response to a post by an X user who warned people against purchasing the device without “fixing the basics." The exchange comes days before Temple opens pre-orders for its first batch on November 1, 2026.

Goyal has been sharing updates about the experimental health-tech device in recent months, with the latest announcement bringing it closer to its first public sale.In a tweet, Goyal said on X that Temple is accepting pre-orders from users who had signed up for early access. He also asked others to download the Temple app, save their carts and prepare for pre-orders to open on November 1.

In response to his update, an X user wrote, “Dropping this here in case anyone’s buying this without fixing the basics.” The user also shared an image, although Goyal did not provide further details about the warning. The image showed a pyramid of health and fitness priorities.

It placed eight or more hours of sleep and eating a variety of whole foods at the base, followed by lifting weights and sprinting. Walking 10,000 steps a day sat at the top of the pyramid, under self-fulfilment needs.

The image suggests that people should take care of their basic health needs before focusing on more advanced fitness goals or buying a wearable to monitor their health. Deepinder Goyal says people who have this issue should not use the Temple device.

Replying to the post, Goyal said, “Thanks for sharing this. I was going to post tomorrow to not buy Temple if your basics are not in place.” His response suggests that he intends to issue a similar warning to potential buyers.

However, he has yet to clarify what people should prioritise before spending money on the wearable.Temple costs Rs 85,000: What is it exactly?Temple is a brain-monitoring wearable developed under a private initiative backed by Goyal. The device uses optical sensors to track changes in cerebral blood flow, a metric the company calls BrainFlow.

It is designed to monitor blood flow and oxygenation inside the brain. The first batch of Temple is priced at Rs 85,000, including a lifetime subscription.

Goyal has said that each unit will be hand-made to order, with delivery expected within three months of purchase. This means customers ordering when pre-orders open on November 1 could receive their devices in early 2027.Goyal has also said that Temple is following a “grow slow” approach, prioritising quality control and customer experience instead of rapidly increasing production.

The device will be available in six colours, with Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk offered as limited editions. The wearable first attracted attention when Goyal appeared on a podcast wearing a small, metallic device attached to his head.

In May, he said the first 100 units were ready to ship to select founding users, including athletes, scientists, doctors, founders and creators. In August, Goyal claimed that the latest version was less than half the size of the earlier model. However, independent reports noted that he had not shared hardware specifications or performance data to support some of his claims about the device.Temple has also received questions about replacement parts.

Responding to a user who asked about the cost of replacement sticky bits, Goyal said the price was not finalised but would be below Rs 10,000, with the company aiming to keep it around Rs 5,000.- Ends
