Apple is rumoured to bring the standard iPhone 18 to the market in spring 2027, several months after launching its latest Pro models and the iPhone Duo. While the company has yet to confirm the launch, leaks suggest the upcoming budget iPhone could receive a handful of changes, including a new processor, more RAM and a redesigned camera layout. The iPhone 18 is expected to retain much of the hardware found on the iPhone 17, but Apple's move to a new generation of chips could bring improvements in performance and battery efficiency.
The phone may also get a revised Camera Control button and slightly slimmer bezels. Here are six upgrades that have been tipped so far.iPhone 18: 6 changes rumoured1.
New chipThe biggest expected upgrade is Apple's A20 processor, which is reportedly being developed using TSMC's 2nm manufacturing process. This would be a step up from the A19 chip in the iPhone 17.
The newer processor is expected to deliver better performance while consuming less power. Reports suggest it could offer around 30 per cent better power efficiency than its predecessor, potentially helping the phone last longer between charges.2.
RAM upgrade?Apple could also increase the RAM on the standard iPhone 18. While some reports point to 12GB of RAM, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that the phone may instead come with 9GB.
Either way, this would be an increase over the 8GB RAM offered on the iPhone 17. The additional memory could help with multitasking and Apple's on-device AI features.
3. Redesigned camera layoutThe iPhone 18 may borrow a design element from the Pro models.
According to leaks, Apple could introduce a wider camera plateau running across the upper section of the rear panel. However, the camera hardware itself may not receive a major upgrade.
The standard model is expected to retain the 48-megapixel primary camera and 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor found on its predecessor.4. Camera Control buttonApple may revise the Camera Control button instead of removing it altogether.
The new version is tipped to use a pressure-sensitive mechanism rather than the touch-based system currently used. This could allow users to trigger different functions through varying levels of pressure.
The simpler construction may also help Apple reduce manufacturing costs.5. Display bezelsThe iPhone 18 is expected to retain the 6.3-inch OLED display introduced with the iPhone 17.
However, Apple could make the bezels around the screen marginally thinner, giving the phone a slightly cleaner appearance. The display is also expected to retain ProMotion support with a 120Hz refresh rate.
A smaller Dynamic Island, which has been discussed in earlier leaks, is now considered less likely for the standard model.6. Siri AIThe iPhone 18 is expected to ship with iOS 27.
The software could bring Apple's upgraded Siri AI, which is reportedly being developed with Google's Gemini technology. The assistant is expected to understand conversational requests, use information displayed on the screen and complete tasks across different apps.
Apple Intelligence features could also receive further improvements across apps such as Photos, Mail, Safari and Shortcuts.iPhone 18 launch timeline and expected priceApple is rumoured to announce the standard iPhone 18 in spring 2027. The device is said to debut before or after March.
It could arrive alongside the second-generation iPhone Air and the more affordable iPhone 18e. The company has not revealed its pricing plans yet.
However, the standard iPhone 18 could cost around Rs 1 lakh, just like the revised price of the iPhone 17. Although, there are also rumours of Apple still planning to offer the iPhone 18 at the launch price of the iPhone 17, which was Rs 79,900.
Higher storage variants may become more expensive, particularly as rising chip and memory costs put pressure on smartphone makers.Apple is expected to continue offering 256GB as the starting storage option on the iPhone 18. The company dropped the 128GB entry-level variant with the iPhone 17, and there are currently no indications that it plans to bring it back.
The higher storage option could remain 512GB, with no 1TB variant expected for the standard model. All these details are based on leaks and early reports. Apple has not officially confirmed the specifications, price or launch date of the iPhone 18.
