Haryana Police is working alongside the Central Bureau of Investigation to finalize the procedures for deporting fugitive gangster Himanshu Bhau, who has been detained by United States authorities and remains in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, officials stated on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Bhau, who is wanted in India for a string of murder and extortion cases, was initially detained for misrepresenting facts after the Haryana Police alerted federal agencies that he had escaped the country using a passport containing a forged surname.
The Special Task Force of the Haryana Police is maintaining close coordination with the CBI, which serves as India's national central bureau for Interpol, to speed up his return from the United States.
Investigators note that Bhau's criminal background began at age 17 when he was accused of attempting to murder a rival. Following an arrest, he managed to break out of a juvenile correction center in Hisar during 2020 and subsequently built a prominent organized crime network, transforming into one of the country's most wanted fugitives.
According to law enforcement, Bhau first escaped to Portugal utilizing fraudulent paperwork and has since directed his criminal syndicate from abroad. His organization shares strong alliances with factions opposed to the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate.
The gang drew intense scrutiny in September after taking credit on social media for the daytime assassination of gym owner and trainer Vijay Kumar in South Delhi's Aya Nagar neighborhood. Kumar was killed on September 14 after being drawn outside, where two attackers on a motorcycle opened fire.
Law enforcement officials stated that Kumar was the third victim in a persistent local family feud. The criminal network has also been connected to a high-profile shooting at a Rajouri Garden Burger King restaurant in 2024, which left a 26-year-old man dead. Bhau publicly claimed responsibility for that homicide online, asserting that the victim had a role in the 2020 killing of one of his associates.
