She also sought regular WhatsApp updates as her lover carried out the killing.
The motive, police said, was to eliminate her husband and move to Dehradun with her lover to start a new life together.The woman, identified as Urmila and her alleged lover, Sikandar, have been arrested in connection with the murder of her husband, Pramod, whose body was found near a tubewell in his field on October 18.Pramod had left home saying he was going to watch a Ramlila performance but never returned. His body was later found in his field near a tubewell, with severe injuries to his face.As police began investigating the murder, their probe led them to his wife, Urmila, and Sikandar, a motorcycle mechanic who had rented a shop belonging to Pramod.
According to police, Urmila and Sikandar had developed a romantic relationship and would meet secretly at hotels. However, after Urmila’s son learnt about their relationship, Sikandar stopped visiting her house, though the two continued to stay in touch over the phone.During questioning, police learnt that Urmila wanted to move to Dehradun with Sikandar and start a new life with him.
The two conspired to kill Pramod to make that possible.PLOT TO DRUG PRAMOD AND AVOID CCTV On October 18, Urmila called Sikandar to her compound and handed him two sleeping pills, instructing him to mix them with Pramod’s liquor, police said.Sikandar gave Pramod a quarter bottle of liquor near the village primary school and asked him to go to his tubewell. He then went to get snacks before making his way to the spot through the fields, following Urmila’s instructions to avoid the road and stay out of the range of CCTV cameras.Once he reached the tubewell, Sikandar mixed the sleeping pills into Pramod’s liquor, setting the plan in motion.As Pramod started becoming intoxicated, Sikandar tried to knock him down.
However, Pramod resisted, prompting Sikandar to hit him on the head with the liquor bottle repeatedly, police said. Even after the bottle broke, he continued striking Pramod with the broken glass.Sikandar then dragged Pramod’s unconscious body to a sugarcane field about 20-25 steps from the tubewell.
After confirming that Pramod had died, he left the spot and went to watch the Ramlila performance.Throughout the crime, Urmila kept asking Sikandar for updates over WhatsApp, according to investigators. After he confirmed the killing, she told him she would block his number and contact him herself if needed.Sikandar had taken screenshots of some of their WhatsApp exchanges before the messages could be deleted, police said.
