The Congress Party faced a significant electoral setback, managing to secure only a single seat in Nagpur, while the Samajwadi Party won five seats in Uttar Pradesh, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. The Bharatiya Janata Party took swipes at the opposition over the poor performance, noting that the elections were conducted via ballot papers rather than Electronic Voting Machines, an electoral reform long demanded by Congress.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah criticised the party's performance, while Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge countered by stating that electoral losses do not signify an eroded support base. Kharge reiterated the demand for ballot voting and challenged the ruling party to dissolve Parliament and conduct fresh nationwide elections using ballot papers.
