Actor Kriti Sanon recently recalled the intense backlash surrounding her Raksha Bandhan advertisement on Kareena Kapoor Khan’s chat show, calling out online trolls for hypocrisy. She revealed that the very people claiming to defend Indian culture resorted to using abusive language against her parents and sister online.Kriti, as a guest on Kareena's Youtube show, What Women Want, said, "What is with the hate?

I don't read comments under posts, but I feel that sometimes people get so nasty, those who talk about culture and respect were, ironically, the ones who commented on my parents' and sister's posts. In the nastiest, abusive language," adding, "What have they done?

My sister said I should turn off my comments and I asked why? I was disturbed.

I feel it is important for women to stand up for themselves. Who has given these people the right to comment and for what?"She also expressed her perspective on the rakhi ad controversy as a woman. "Normally I don't say anything I felt it (the rakhi ad controversy) was not about me, it was a much larger issue where I feel women are constantly under scrutiny for everything.

It is only women who are targeted for the smallest thing. What you want to wear, she is too short or tall, oh is she pregnant...what is going on?

It is just my opinion," she said. While highlighting the gender inequality prevalent in society, Kriti also emphasised that at times actors are the easiest targets. "Actors are the easiest targets. It has happened to multiple people, and we are just human and it also affects us.

I feel very strongly about the gender inequality that exists, and the patriarchy that is so deeply embedded. We need to shatter it multiple times for it to break," she concluded. The criticism against Kriti and the jewellery brand stemmed from two key segments in the Raksha Bandhan commercial.

Social media users took issue with the actor wearing a modern bralette and skirt ensemble while tying a rakhi to her brother, alongside further criticism over her tying a rakhi to a pet dog in the film. While the actor released a statement clarifying her stance on the attire, the brand eventually pulled the commercial off its platforms amidst the growing controversy.Meanwhile, Kriti was last seen in director Homi Adajania's Cocktail 2, featuring actors Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in key roles.

The film theatrically released on June 19, 2026.- Ends
