POLAND OUT. NO COMMERCIAL OR EDITORIAL SALES IN POLAND. (Agencja Wyborcza.pl via REUTERS)On Friday, Poland's constitutional tribunal announced that its longest-serving judge, Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, had suspended the tribunal's president, Bogdan Swieczkowski, and taken charge of the court.
Swieczkowski was one of the judges appointed by Tusk's far-right predecessor. Tusk's government has been trying to force out those top court judges who were appointed between 2015 and 2023 by the previous right-wing government of the nationalist Law and Justice party (PiS), AFP reported.
The move triggered protests outside the tribunal late on Friday, and led to Polish President Karol Nawrocki, an ally of PiS, cutting short his trip to Senegal.
