MPs throw chairs, overturn tables in Armenia parliament
Several lawmakers were injured after a fight broke out in Armenia’s parliament between members of the ruling Civil Contract party and the opposition Strong Armenia faction. The clash began during a debate over an appointment to the Audit Chamber, when ruling party lawmaker Taron Chakhoyan brought up a remark by the opposition leader’s cousin about setting up a separate ministry for women. The exchange quickly turned physical, with MPs throwing punches, hurling chairs and overturning tables. The incident comes less than a month after a similar clash between lawmakers and weeks after new parliamentary ethics rules were introduced.
