Singer Mika Singh held a press conference on Friday evening, October 2023, 2026. He addressed the recent controversy that erupted over Daler Mehndi's performance at the Kunjapuri Mela in Narendra Nagar, Tehri, Uttarakhand.

Singh revealed that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami apologised to him on behalf of MLA Subodh Uniyal who had accused Mehndi of being drunk on stage.Singh, during the press conference said, "Just this morning, I spoke with my elder brother, dear friend, and someone I hold in high regard, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami. Whenever I visit Dehradun, he meets me with great warmth and is extremely down-to-earth.

The way he communicated with Daler Paaji (Daler Mehndi) and me was very polite and humble.""He offered an apology on behalf of the Minister. Though I told him it wasn't necessary since he made no mistake but he assured me that I and Daler Paaji will be treated with utmost respect, the next time we visit Uttarakhand," Singh added.Singh had earlier strongly defended his brother, veteran artist Daler Mehndi, after a video from the Uttarakhand stage show went viral.

He declared that he would quit music if anyone can prove his sibling consumes alcohol.Addressing the online backlash following the performance in Narendranagar — where MLA Subodh Uniyal publicly accused Mehndi of being intoxicated — Singh argued that the veteran singer was physically unwell due to a recent major surgery.Highlighting Mehndi’s three-decade-long career as a superstar, Singh emphasised that his brother had never been associated with drinking and had honoured his professional commitment despite his fragile health. The singer rejected the allegations of intoxication. He acknowledged that the minister had every right to question the quality of the performance after paying for the event.

However, Singh maintained that accusing his brother of being drunk was entirely false.Uttarakhand minister Subodh Uniyal had objected to Mehndi's apparent condition and argued that performing under the influence of alcohol was inappropriate at a Navratri event dedicated to Goddess Durga.Later, several celebrities came out in support of the veteran singer, including actor Anupam Kher, rapper Badshah and actor-comedian Kapil Sharma.- Ends
