Most people would expect the two to sit on opposite ends of a shopping list. But an Instagram user has found a way to put them in the same price bracket, at least on paper, by configuring Apple's top-end laptop with almost every upgrade available.
The result? A bill of nearly Rs 18 lakh, prompting him to suggest that Creta owners might as well trade in their SUVs for a laptop. In an Instagram video, Mohsin takes viewers through the process of building what he calls a fully maxed-out MacBook Pro, starting with a model priced at around Rs 3.5 lakh.He then picks the 16-inch Space Black version and gets busy adding upgrades.
The first is a nano-texture display, followed by Apple's powerful M5 Max chip. But he is not stopping at the processor.
He opts for the maximum available cores, memory and storage, making sure no upgrade is left behind. “Did you recently buy a Creta? Then sell it and buy the new MacBook Pro, maxed out at just Rs 17 lakh,” he jokes in Hindi. As the upgrades pile up, so does the price.
Mohsin's configuration eventually reaches Rs 17,97,800, including taxes. That is quite a leap from the laptop's starting price, and enough to make even a premium SUV seem like a more modest purchase.
He then takes the comparison a step further by looking at the EMI option. Even spreading the cost across monthly instalments does little to make the purchase sound less staggering.“Even if you're thinking of buying it on monthly instalments (EMI), it would still cost you 1,61,000 rupees per month,” he says.He wraps up the video with a question for viewers: “Would you prefer a Creta or a MacBook Pro?”Watch the video here:For context, the Hyundai Creta's on-road price in Delhi-NCR and Ghaziabad ranges from approximately Rs 12.68 lakh to Rs 24.15 lakh, depending on the variant, engine and transmission.
This means the fully upgraded MacBook Pro sits comfortably within the price range of the SUV, costing more than some of its variants. The video made an extravagant tech purchase into an amusing car-versus-computer debate. After all, not everyone gets to choose between driving a new SUV and owning a laptop that costs nearly as much.- Ends
