In Senate races, Democrats lead 63 to 21 per cent,” the survey said. The survey was conducted online among 1,000 Indian-American adults between October 7 and 27. It had an overall margin of error of 3.87 per cent.
The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace conducted the survey in partnership with YouGov. “Results from a new survey conducted ahead of the midterm elections reveal a backlash against Trump and the Republican Party accompanied by a rebound in support for the Democratic Party,” authors Sumitra Badrinathan, Devesh Kapur, Annabel Miller, Andy Robaina and Milan Vaishnav wrote in an article published on Monday.According to PTI, the survey found that the gains made by Republicans among Indian Americans in 2024 had not carried over into support for the party's congressional candidates. While 30 per cent of Indian Americans backed Trump in 2024, 19 per cent now support Republican candidates for the House.
Democratic support stood at 62 per cent in both surveys. Among men aged 40 and above, support for Democrats rose from 53 per cent in January 2026 to 68 per cent in October.
Republican support among this group fell from 32 per cent to 16 per cent during the same period.Of those surveyed, 46 per cent identified themselves as Democrats, lower than the 62 per cent who said they intended to vote for the opposition party. In 2024, 62 per cent of Indian Americans supported Kamala Harris, while 30 per cent favoured Trump. By January 2026, Democratic support had fallen to 57 per cent, while 25 per cent expressed support for Trump. The latest survey shows that the Republican Party's 2024 electoral gains among Indian Americans have not translated into sustained support for its congressional candidates, with Democrats leading in both House and Senate races. With PTI Inputs- Ends
