Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday warned private institutions of action if they are found deliberately sidelining Kannadigas during the hiring process, saying the government will not allow the rights, dignity and job opportunities of locals to be disregarded.Shivakumar, in a post on X, said the government had taken seriously the complaints that native Kannada speakers were being denied job opportunities in Bengaluru’s IT companies.“In Karnataka, the Kannadiga is sovereign. The government will not allow the rights, dignity, and opportunities of Kannadigas to be disregarded for any reason,” he said.Pointing to Bengaluru’s standing as India’s technology capital, Shivakumar said the state took pride in the talent, skills and capabilities of Kannadigas.

He added that appropriate action would be taken if any private institution was found to have deliberately sidelined them. The chief minister’s statement comes amid several videos circulating on social media in which people have complained of Kannadigas being denied job opportunities in Bengaluru. In the latest video, a woman alleged that Bengaluru-based companies were rejecting candidates who mentioned Kannada on their resumes, hiring only a few Kannadigas and selecting candidates at lower salaries during campus interviews in other states. “Due to this we are not getting job opportunities,” she said in the video and had appealed Shivakumar to intervene.- Ends
