Delhi Shutdown: Supreme Court To Hear Pleas On Restrictions, Metro Closures And Police Action
The Supreme Court is set to hear multiple petitions regarding the Delhi shutdown, police crackdown, and restrictions imposed in the national capital. Ahead of the special hearing, a contempt petition was filed alleging violation of the apex court's October 9 order on the use of police force and blanket prohibitions on public conveniences. Petitions include a habeas corpus plea over alleged illegal preventive detentions and a contempt plea concerning metro and train halts despite court directions. While 45 metro stations were shut yesterday, metro and rail services have resumed normal operations, though heavy police deployment continues as protests at Jantar Mantar proceed.
