He added that no such exercise was conducted before the elections in Haryana and Delhi, where the BJP won.Around 91 lakh names were removed from West Bengal's electoral rolls during the SIR conducted before the state elections, according to PTI. Bhattacharya also claimed that more than 20 lakh fake Swasthyasathi cards had been identified and said this supported the large-scale removal of names from the voter list.

Questioning the Opposition's protests seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Bhattacharya claimed that the CEC was being worshipped in West Bengal."The state has not seen such a bloodless, violence-free election in 70 years," he said, crediting Kumar with ensuring that people could vote in a festive atmosphere. "He should be given no less than the Padma Bhushan award".The BJP won the West Bengal Assembly elections for the first time, defeating the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, which had been in power for 15 years."There are no cockroaches or agitations in West Bengal, no Rahul Gandhi or Mamata Banerjee in the state," Bhattacharya said.He claimed that the Congress, once led by Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, had been reduced to seeking alliances with regional parties to remain politically relevant.Calling the Congress a "parasite political party", Bhattacharya said, "They are now claiming that we won by deceit".He also claimed that the Trinamool Congress had ceased to exist as a political force in the state, reiterating his pre-election prediction. He said the party had split into three factions — the Mamata Trinamool Congress, the Democratic Trinamool Congress and the NCPI.Bhattacharya said India had reached new heights under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership after moving from the category of the world's "fragile five" economies in 2014."But there are some people — bedbugs, cockroaches and house lizards — who are roaming around," he said, apparently referring to the Cockroach Janta Party, which has been leading protests demanding Kumar's removal as CEC.In an apparent reference to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Bhattacharya said without naming him, "There is a leader who jumped into a pond in Bihar to show that he was with the fishermen community, but they also rejected him from there".

Gandhi had joined local fishermen in traditional fish-catching activities at a village pond in Begusarai in November 2025.Bhattacharya's remarks centred on his demand for another revision of West Bengal's electoral rolls, his defence of the Chief Election Commissioner and his criticism of the Congress and Trinamool Congress following the BJP's Assembly election victory.- Ends
