A man stole a gold chain from the neck of an eight-month-old girl at a busy cosmetic shop in Bhopal, pulling off the theft in the middle of a crowd before walking away without raising suspicion.CCTV footage from the shop shows the accused cutting the thread, holding the chain around the infant's neck and slipping away with the jewellery. The woman, apparently the infant's mother, remains unaware and was busy being attended to by a shopkeeper as the man carries out the theft.Despite several people around him, the man walks out of the shop discreetly without being noticed by anyone, the footage shows.The theft came to light later, following which the girl's family lodged a complaint at the Kotwali police station.
Police have registered an FIR and launched a search for the accused. Station in-charge Alpana Singh said police were examining the CCTV footage to identify and trace the man.
