Rather than taking on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 or the Hero Xpulse 200 directly, the RTX 300 finds its own place between the two.It is aimed at riders who want a motorcycle that can handle everyday commutes, long highway rides and occasional off-road trails with equal ease.
Power comes from a new 299cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 35bhp and 28.5Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and gets ride-by-wire, multiple ride modes, switchable traction control and dual-channel ABS.
Our first ride left us impressed. The RTX 300 feels well-balanced and easy to ride, whether you are on smooth tarmac or loose trails.
On the road, it feels stable and inspires confidence through corners, while the engine has enough performance for relaxed highway cruising.Move off the road and the suspension does a good job of absorbing bumps, rocks and slush, helping the motorcycle stay composed over rough terrain. It is this balance between on-road manners and off-road capability that makes the RTX 300 stand out.
However, first impressions are only part of the story. Over the next few months, the Apache RTX 300 will be a part of our long-term fleet, where it will face long-distance touring, daily commuting, rough trails and everything in between.
Stay tuned as we find out how it performs in everyday situations.
