Police have arrested three more individuals in connection with the hacking of history-sheeter Madan earlier this month, bringing the total number of arrests in the murder case to 14.The victim, 26-year-old Madan alias Sullan from Puthupatti near Sivaganga, had 15 pending criminal cases against him, including a double murder charge. On October 18, a gang traveling on two-wheelers intercepted and hacked him to death at Okkur Melamangalam near Sivaganga.
A case was subsequently registered by the Sivaganga Town police.Acting on orders from District Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta, six special teams led by DSP Amal Adwin were formed to track down the perpetrators.According to police investigation, the murder was an act of retaliation. On November 1 of last year, a gang headed by Madan’s associate, Arun Pandian, had murdered 20-year-old Rajesh—the son of local auto-driver Bhagyaraj—in Sivaganga. Because Madan backed the accused in that case, Mithun Manikam from Murugapanchan near Vellore, a close friend of the deceased Rajesh, allegedly mobilised a group of supporters to assassinate Madan. While 11 suspects had been taken into custody previously, the special teams apprehended three more men: Adhipathi Raja, 26, and Manikandan, 25, both from Sivaganga, along with Vijay, 19, of Virudhunagar district.
