Supreme Court Clarifies Stand on Form 6, ECI Revision Powers and Voter Roll Validity
The Supreme Court clarified that it neither approved nor disapproved changes made to Form 6 for voter enrolment, noting that its May 2026 verdict was limited to the Special Intensive Revision in Bihar. The court stated that the revised Form 6 introduced in July 2026 was not judicially examined and that it will now scrutinise the validity of the new format. This clarification follows claims by the Election Commission that the modified form had judicial backing. Additionally, the apex court reiterated that its May 27, 2026 order upheld the poll panel's constitutional power under Article 324 to conduct Special Intensive Revision exercises to ensure voter roll accuracy, credibility, and free and fair elections.
