Opposition Marches To Supreme Court, CJI Denies Meeting, Row Over CEC Resignation
Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc took out a protest march towards the Supreme Court in New Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the halting of the Special Intensive Revision exercise. Chief Justice of India Suryakant declined to meet the marching opposition leaders, noting that the issues raised were already subjudice and that meeting outside judicial procedures would breach the separation of powers. Undeterred, the leaders continued their march and submitted a formal petition before the apex court seeking to quash alleged irregularities by the Election Commission. Ground reports highlighted police barricading along Barakhamba Road and Bhagwan Das Road as leaders and civil society members joined the demonstration. During televised debates, BJP spokesperson Sanju Varma defended the electoral revision process, maintaining that voter deletions pertained to deceased, absent, shifted, and duplicate electors, while opposition representatives and activists alleged democratic rights were compromised through automated deletions. Congress leadership later addressed protesters, reaffirming plans to legally challenge the ongoing revision.
