Safety personnel from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation are actively working to seal a natural gas leak originating from a pipeline near Machavaram village in the Ambajipeta mandal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. The incident began when local residents noticed a minor gas leak around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026.
ONGC response teams coordinated the emergency operation, noting that their dedicated safety wing personnel managed the situation and completely brought the ensuing fire under control by 11:20 a.m. Authorities stated that the damaged pipeline is scheduled to be fully replaced.
As a precautionary measure, all wells operated by the public sector enterprise in the surrounding area have been temporarily shut down until the leak is completely resolved and a new pipeline is installed. Officials are maintaining close coordination with local district administration to keep them informed about the progress of the remediation work.
District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar confirmed through an official release that the fire has been neutralized and mitigation efforts remain underway to secure the pipeline.
This event follows previous incidents in the region involving ONGC infrastructure. In January, a blowout occurred at the Mori-5 well in Irusumanda village, generating flames up to 25 meters high that necessitated local evacuations and caused damage to approximately 75 coconut trees and surrounding crops. Additionally, in July 2025, a natural gas leak at an active drilling site in Pasarlapudi Lanka prompted district authorities to order a temporary halt to drilling operations.
