Serbia Election: Student-Led Anti-Corruption Movement Ousts Vucic After 14 YearsA youth-backed anti-corruption coalition known as the Student List has achieved a historic victory in Serbia's parliamentary election, bringing an end to 14 years of rule by Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian Progressive Party. Aided by a 70% voter turnout, the movement is projected to secure a majority with 135 to 140 seats in the 250-member parliament.
The political formation arose from two years of continuous student protests following the November 2024 Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse that claimed 16 lives. Instead of relying on career politicians, the party fielded everyday citizens, including doctors, academics, and farmers.
Vucic conceded defeat on election night, marking a peaceful transition of power amid celebrations in Belgrade.
