CJP Leaders Detained at Jantar Mantar Amid Protests, Heavy Police Deployment in Delhi
Delhi Police detained leaders of the CJP, including Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, after they allegedly scaled a locked gate to enter the Jantar Mantar area. The action came amid heightened security arrangements in the New Delhi district following the denotification of Jantar Mantar as a designated demonstration site. Paramilitary personnel and local police remain deployed across major connecting stretches, including Parliament Street and Ashok Road, with buses placed on standby to manage potential flash protests. Demonstrators held copies of the Constitution and raised slogans against the denotification of the historic protest venue while being escorted away in police vehicles to an undisclosed location. Police authorities are reviewing potential legal recourse and examining whether previous court-ordered peace bonds were breached during the incident, as around 50 cases linked to recent demonstrations in the area remain under active investigation.
