(Photo- File/Getty) India said on Friday that the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) could be disturbed when Chinese forces deviate from established patrolling patterns.

It stressed that peace and tranquillity in border areas are essential for the overall development of India-China relations. The statement came after Indo-Tibetan Border Police Director General Shatrujeet Kapur said confrontations with Chinese troops continue at several sites along the border in Arunachal Pradesh.ā€œAs we have noted in the past, the situation in the India-China border areas gets disturbed from time to time when Chinese forces diverge from established patrolling patterns,ā€ External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at his bi-weekly media briefing.ā€œBoth sides will continue to use existing diplomatic and military mechanisms to resolve outstanding issues and avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the Line of Actual Control,ā€ he said. Jaiswal said the two countries had also agreed to discuss ways to improve their understanding of the LAC in appropriate areas for better border management.ā€œI would also like to emphasise that the maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the border areas is essential for the overall development of bilateral relations,ā€ he added.

Speaking in Alwar, Rajasthan, on Thursday, Kapur said the ITBP had raised drone platoons in all its border units and prepared a new ā€œStrikeā€ course to better handle battles similar to the Galwan Valley clash.India and China have introduced a series of measures over the past year to rebuild ties, which came under severe strain after the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020 and the military face-off that continued for more than four years. In October 2024, the two sides finalised an agreement to disengage troops from Depsang and Demchok, the last two friction points in eastern Ladakh. Days later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks in Kazan and took several decisions to improve bilateral ties.In August last year, Modi travelled to Tianjin in China to attend the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.

During extensive talks with Xi on the sidelines of the summit, Modi said India was committed to taking forward its relationship with China based on mutual trust, respect and sensitivity.Last month, Modi also held bilateral talks with Xi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. He stressed that both countries must be sensitive to each other’s core issues and allow the relationship to be guided by the ā€œthree mutualsā€ -- mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest.India has maintained that the two sides must continue using diplomatic and military channels to resolve outstanding border issues, prevent misunderstandings along the LAC and preserve peace as they work to improve bilateral relations.- Ends
