China said its border patrols comply with agreements as India raised concerns over departures from established patterns. The exchange highlights persistent LAC friction despite diplomatic and military engagement.Beijing,Oct 26, 2026 19:48 ISTChina on Monday said it was strictly following its agreements and understandings with India while conducting regular border patrols to protect its territorial sovereignty and maintain stability, news agency Press Trust of India reported. The statement came after India said the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) was disturbed whenever Chinese forces moved away from established patrolling patterns.

Both countries continue to communicate through diplomatic and military channels.“China strictly abides by the relevant agreements and common understandings reached between the two countries, and conducts normal border patrol and control activities to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and stability in the border areas,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun told a media briefing in Beijing, according to PTI.“We hope that India will work with China in the same direction by jointly implementing the common understandings reached between the two sides and maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas with concrete actions,” Guo said. Last week, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the situation along the LAC was disturbed from time to time when Chinese forces diverged from established patrolling patterns.

He said maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas was essential for the overall development of bilateral relations.Jaiswal was responding to a question about comments by Indo-Tibetan Border Police Director General Shatrujeet Kapur that confrontations with Chinese troops continued at several sites along the border in Arunachal Pradesh. “Both sides continue to use existing diplomatic and military mechanisms to resolve outstanding issues and avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the Line of Actual Control,” Jaiswal said.India and China introduced a series of measures over the past year to rebuild ties after relations came under severe strain following the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020 and the military face-off that continued for more than four years.Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. Modi stressed that both sides must be sensitive to each other’s core issues and allow relations to be guided by the “three mutuals” — mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest.India and China have maintained diplomatic and military communication over the LAC while calling for existing agreements to be implemented and peace to be maintained in the border areas. With PTI Inputs- Ends
