A preliminary probe into two hoax bomb threats targeting 35 locations in Ahmedabad, including the Narendra Modi Stadium and schools, has traced the email accounts to Bangladesh and Pakistan. The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch is investigating a suspected cross-border network involved in selling hacked email accounts used to send the threats.Ahmedabad,Oct 28, 2026 18:47 ISTA preliminary investigation into two recent hoax bomb threats targeting several locations in Ahmedabad, including the Narendra Modi Stadium, has found that the email accounts used to send the messages were operated from Bangladesh and Pakistan, officials told news agency Press Trust of India. The investigation has also indicated a possible network involved in selling hacked email accounts, the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch said in a release. The first case was registered on October 7 after bomb threat emails were sent from two email addresses to 16 locations.
The targets included 10 schools, the Gujarat High Court, other courts in Ahmedabad and the Narendra Modi Stadium. The messages referred to Khalistan and threatened explosions at singer Diljit Dosanjh's shows scheduled for November 1 in Delhi and November 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Preliminary findings indicated that the email accounts had been operated from Bangladesh and Rawalpindi in Pakistan.
Old email accounts were allegedly obtained and used to send the threats. The second case was registered on October 27 after another email threatened 19 locations, including 14 schools, government offices, courts and the Narendra Modi Stadium. The message again referred to Khalistan and threatened blasts in Ahmedabad.
It also warned people against attending Dosanjh's November 21 show. An examination of the email headers and information obtained from Gmail indicated that the account had been operated from Rangpur in Bangladesh and Lahore in Pakistan, according to PTI.
The Cyber Crime Branch is investigating both cases in coordination with central agencies. In an earlier case involving similar bomb threats issued in the name of a Khalistani organisation, Gujarat Police had arrested a man from West Bengal.Police found that the accused had sold hacked Gmail accounts to a person in Bangladesh, who then sold them to someone in Pakistan in exchange for cryptocurrency.
The investigation found that individuals based in Pakistan were sending threatening emails ahead of festivals and other important events to create fear. The latest probe is examining similar links in the two recent hoax threat cases.- Ends
