Ankita Bhandari’s mother breaks down as police detain her at India Gate
Ankita Bhandari’s mother broke down as police detained her and her husband during their protest near India Gate in New Delhi on October 14. The parents of the 19-year-old, who was murdered in Uttarakhand in 2022, were protesting against Dushyant Kumar Gautam’s appointment as Sikkim Governor and demanding that it be cancelled. During the protest, Ankita’s father issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Centre to revoke Gautam’s appointment. Several Congress leaders, including Pawan Khera, Supriya Shrinate and Indian Youth Congress chief Uday Bhanu Chib, were also detained and later released. Ankita’s parents were released around 5 am on October 15, hours after their detention.
