Workers, who were earlier employed with the seven National Textile Corporation (NTC) mills in Tamil Nadu, are on a protest in front of the NTC south region office in Coimbatore demanding payment of wages and bonus.T.S. Rajamani of HMS said workers affiliated to eight trade unions are staging a protest in front of the NTC office here as the mills stopped production since May 18, 2020, without prior notice.

With the efforts taken by the unions, the workers received full monthly wages till June 2023. Since then, the workers were getting 50% monthly wages.

For the last 12 months, essential workers such as security and electricity maintenance personnel have not received any wages though they are coming to the mills daily and those who retired since last January have not received the gratuity amount. For the last six years, the workers have not been paid the mandatory 8.33 % bonus. Hence, the joint action council of the NTC unions have decided that workers will go on protest till these issues are addressed, he said.
