Following two successful seasons in Hindi, the reality format The Traitors has made its debut in Telugu, hosted by young actor Teja Sajja. Twenty participants, featuring a mix of familiar and fresh faces, are locked inside a grand palace where deception, betrayal, and psychological maneuvers are supposed to take center stage. However, the early episodes demonstrate that the contestants bring significantly more drama than actual strategy.

For viewers unfamiliar with the premise, the game requires the host to select three secret traitors while the group is blindfolded. These chosen individuals must then eliminate a fellow player during the night without exposing themselves. Meanwhile, during the Ring of Doubt segment, the remaining innocent contestants must defend themselves and attempt to identify and vote out the hidden traitors.

Making his anchoring debut, Teja Sajja appears comfortable and composed in front of the camera. He maintains a strict, deadpan demeanor while occasionally delivering lighthearted remarks during physical challenges.

The roster of contestants brings together individuals from various professional backgrounds. Among the recognizable names are Chinmayi Sripada, Vidyullekha Raman, Shravya Varma, Harsha Vardhan, Prasath, Vishnu, Nikhil, Vardhan, and Sweekar. In the opening episode, Chinmayi is immediately placed in a difficult position when her peers label her the most trustworthy person, leading to an elimination twist that sets the tone for how vital it is to conceal one's true standing.

While the participants demonstrate physical fitness during initial tasks, several struggle significantly when mental acuity is required. In a format where cunning and deception are essential, watching players falter can diminish the engagement. Content creator Gaurav Sunil, for instance, retreats into silence when targeted during the first Ring of Doubt, dismissing his peers and their arguments before becoming the first player banished.

Similarly, Vidyullekha Raman struggles by over-communicating and drawing unnecessary attention to herself. Although she advises her fellow traitors to remain cooperative, she turns on them by naming Ashika, a move that backfires and results in her own banishment during the second Ring of Doubt.

Within the first three episodes, four individuals have exited the competition. Chinmayi Sripada and Nikhil are eliminated through the traitors' nighttime actions, while Gaurav and Vidyullekha face banishment by the group. Meanwhile, participants like entrepreneur and traitor Rahat Achanta, physician Meghanath Reddy, Sweekar, writer Vardhan, and Vishnu Oi display encouraging signs of tactical awareness during the tasks.

Despite the core rule that emotions should be set aside, The Traitors Telugu frequently resembles traditional reality shows like Bigg Boss, with participants shedding tears over eliminations and delivering theatrical remarks. The initial episodes indicate a group that prioritizes emotional outbursts over calculating mind games.

With the first three episodes currently streaming on Prime Video and new installments releasing every Thursday, viewers will have to wait and see if the remaining contestants can adapt to the rigorous demands of the format.
