INDIA Bloc March: Opposition Set To March To Supreme Court Over SIR, CJI Declines Meeting
Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc are scheduled to hold a protest march from Barakhamba Road to the Supreme Court demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a halt to the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi urged opposition parties, civil society groups, and citizens to participate. However, sources close to the office of the Chief Justice of India confirmed that the Chief Justice declined a meeting, noting the matters are under consideration through public interest litigations and the court cannot interfere in executive administrative functioning. In view of the planned protest, entry and exit at six Delhi Metro stations, including Barakhamba Road, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, and Patel Chowk, were shut from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, causing commuter inconvenience. Security forces were deployed across central Delhi and outside the Supreme Court to maintain law and order while traffic movement remained open.
