Rajkummar Rao reveals Prahaar toughest scenes From testimonies to Ujjwal Nikam story
Rajkummar Rao said the most difficult scenes in Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam were the courtroom sequences and the moments linked to Ujjwal Nikam's wife, Jyoti. The actor spoke at the India Today Mumbai Conclave 2026, where he appeared with special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam during the Day 2 session, The Man vs. The Movie: Kasab, the 26/11 Attacks & the Battle for Justice.Rao plays Nikam in the film, which centres largely on the 26/11 case against Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the Mumbai attacks. He said the shoot often felt emotionally heavy because the cast had to revisit painful events while performing.Asked about the toughest scenes, Rao said there were "so many of them". He recalled a scene in which a young actor playing a child witness began giving her testimony. Rao said the courtroom fell silent because she performed so well that it felt as though everyone was reliving those experiences. He credited director Avinash for creating that atmosphere, saying everyone stayed inside the courtroom regardless of whose shot it was. Around 50 extras were present every day and kept reacting even when the camera was not on them. Rao also praised Lalit Prabhakar, who plays Kasab, for remaining fully immersed in the scene.Rao said another difficult stretch involved Nikam returning every Friday to be with Jyoti ma'am while she battled cancer, and then going back to court the next day. He said those scenes, of Nikam going back to the love of his life and life partner during her illness while continuing the case, were "emotionally beautiful" for him as an actor.
