BJP Protests, Sacked JNU Professor & Congress MP Booked, Rahul Gandhi Faces Heat

A massive political confrontation erupted between the BJP and the Congress after Delhi Police registered an FIR against Congress Lok Sabha MP and former JNU professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam over sexual harassment allegations. The parliamentarian was recently sacked from his position as a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University following the charges. BJP workers, led by women parliamentarians and the Mahila Morcha, staged demonstrations outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi and in Bengaluru, burning effigies of Akoijam and Rahul Gandhi while demanding strict action. Meanwhile, the Congress dismissed the agitation as a diversionary tactic intended to shift focus from the opposition's protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
