'I Was Not Part Of A Protest': CPI(M) MP John Brittas Details Alleged Assault
In an exclusive interaction, CPI(M) Member of Parliament John Brittas detailed his alleged assault and detention by the Delhi Police and CRPF in Connaught Circus. Speaking about the incident, Brittas stated that he was speaking to media persons regarding civil liberties and public transport closures when personnel forcefully took him away despite knowing his status as an MP. He described being thrown into a police vehicle, saying, 'They just threw me into the van and they pinned down me on the seat.' Brittas noted that he was released only after a senior police officer intervened over phone. He also highlighted his earlier eight-hour detention alongside the former Chief Minister of Kerala at Mandir Marg Police Station, asserting that political suppression will not deter the Opposition.
