Opposition Moves SC Over Electoral Rolls, CJI Declines Meeting, BJP Slams Rahul Gandhi
Leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, have moved the Supreme Court seeking to invalidate the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, alleging irregularities and vote chori. A planned delegation to meet Chief Justice of India Suryakant did not take place, with the Chief Justice declining the meeting on grounds of judicial propriety and pointing towards established legal procedures. Opposition leaders, joined by Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Supriya Sule, and Saugata Roy, carried out a protest march demanding the resignation and accountability of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Bharatiya Janata Party dismissed the allegations as baseless, accusing the Congress party of attacking constitutional institutions to deflect blame from recurring election defeats and labelling Rahul Gandhi a hawa hawai neta. Concurrently, tensions escalated over demonstration venues in the national capital following the Delhi Police decision to denotify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site.
