New Delhi: Citroen is preparing to bring back one of its most iconic nameplates in a modern avatar, with the all-new 2 CV set to arrive in India soon in both hatchback and pickup versions. The upcoming models will draw inspiration from the 2 CV Concept unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, reinterpreting the original car’s philosophy of affordability, practicality and simplicity for a new generation of buyers.

The new 2 CV marks Citroen’s attempt to revive the spirit of the original model, which debuted in 1948 and became a global automotive icon for its utilitarian design, accessible pricing and versatile nature. While the original was conceived as an inexpensive car for everyday mobility, the modern interpretation embraces electrification and a minimalist approach to vehicle design.

The 2 CV Concept showcased at the Paris Motor Show previews Citroen’s vision for a compact, affordable electric car. Measuring 3.76 metres in length, the concept is positioned between the Ami and C3 in the brand’s European portfolio. It aims to deliver the practicality of a conventional car while retaining a compact footprint suited to urban driving.

Citroen is targeting a vehicle weight of around one tonne, with the emphasis on keeping the battery, manufacturing and ownership costs under control. The production model is expected to follow the same philosophy, prioritising everyday usability over unnecessary complexity. The concept retains several signature elements of the original 2 CV, including round headlamps, a curved roofline, rounded wheel arches and a distinctive upright stance.

The hatchback is expected to form the core of the 2 CV range, offering compact dimensions and practical everyday mobility. The pickup version will bring a different dimension to the nameplate, extending its utility beyond personal mobility and appealing to customers seeking a compact vehicle for both personal and work-related requirements.

Inside, the concept showcases a bright and unconventional cabin, featuring wide seats, a fabric sunroof, a removable storage basket and an 8-inch touchscreen. A detachable Radion speaker, a single-spoke steering wheel and a driver-focused information display add character while keeping the layout simple and functional.

Citroen has not disclosed the final powertrain specifications, battery capacity, charging times or driving range. However, the concept’s focus on lightweight construction and affordable electric mobility provides an indication of the direction in which the production model is being developed.

The new 2 CV is expected to become part of Citroen’s broader product expansion as the brand looks to strengthen its presence in India. Pricing and specifications for the India-bound versions will depend on their powertrain configurations, localisation strategy and positioning within Citroen’s domestic line-up.

This development comes as Stellantis strengthens its commitment to the Indian market through significant ongoing investments and a roadmap introducing multiple new products across various segments over the coming years. The 2 CV hatchback and pickup could become distinctive additions to this expanding portfolio, bringing a historic Citroen nameplate into a market where affordability, practicality and versatility remain key considerations.
